O S I R I S N O R N I I
-----------------------------------------

This is the standard readme file for Osiris Norn II, and outlines all pertinent information regarding
the breed. This includes features, updates, instructions for use, contact information, and other
information related to the Osiris Project and it's results.

-----------------------------------------

What is Osiris?
-----------------------

Osiris Norn II is a complete revamp of the Osiris concept, totally from scratch.
Osiris Norn II is a breed for the game Creatures 3, created by Cyberlife. It has many
enhancements over the default breeds, while still maintaining certain vulnerabities and
quirks that make it the natural creature that it is. It can be freely bred with any Norn
you wish, but it maintains it's hardiness best when bred only with others of it's kind.

F E A T U R E S
--------------------------

Egg grabbing instinct reduces risk of losing Norn eggs to the Grendels, while
simultaneously reducing the survival rate of the Ettin and Grendel species.

Tool pushing instinct makes it far more likely for an Osiris Norn II to use
knowledge stones and pickups.

Instinctive hatred of Ettins and Grendels make Osiris Norn II a truly dominant
creature, as they can easily subdue large numbers of both. Osiris II makes it's
dominance felt most fully, actually detecting and hunting Grendels across great
distances.

Evolved homing instincts and reactions allow Osiris Norn II to call anyplace suitable
for life, home, as they seek all needed comfort and companionship from other Norns,
regardless of location. This also helps ensure mating in low populations, as lonely
Osiris II Norns tend to seek each other out and thus mate.

Wide range of facial expression genes make Osiris Norn II a quite readable and
ambient creature. These are NOT based on Cyberlife's expressive breeds, but are
taken directly from that of Osiris I, which actually predates Cyberlife's updated

Readme file for Osiris Norn v1.5 Peace Edition
-----------------------------

This file is the readme for the v1.5 release of Osiris Norn Peace Edition.
The file Osiris15_pe.zip contains this readme text, an egg agent file,
and the raw genome for Osiris 1.5 Peace Edition. Hopefully these three
files will provide for all your needs using the Osiris Norn v1.5 Peace
Edition in your worlds. Please note that to use the egg agent file you
must have the latest version of Creatures 3. This is usually accomplished
by downloading the patch upgrade from the Cyberlife website, and running it.
-----------------------------

Description
-----------

This is the "Peace Edition" of Osiris v1.5, developed for those of the C3 users
whom run peaceful societies in thier C3 worlds. As I had suspected, the
development of Osiris v1.5 and it's behavioral properties aleinated it from
users who preferred to use species like Lis Morris' "Peace Grendels".
Although the Peace Grendel is basically a Norn in Grendel's clothing,
Osiris v1.5 and Set Norn 1.0 would identify it only as a Grendel, and attack
it mercilessly, just as they should. The problem, of course, is that *any* Ettin
or Grendel simply doesn't stand a chance against a medium to large
population of angry Osiris or Set norns, let alone a peaceful Grendel or
Ettin.

So, in the interest of peace, Osiris v1.5 PE was born. Osiris v1.5 PE will not
attack any other Creature, and even a minor slap is met with a satisfying dose of
punishment. Any time Osiris v1.5 PE is hit, it's fear and pain levels cause it to retreat
from the attacker, no matter the species. And lastly, in effort to add both humor and
perhaps an added bit of survival to the species, Osiris v1.5 will attempt to horde eggs.
In practice, this may greatly reduce the Grendel efforts to steal eggs, as Osiris v1.5 will
boldly stride up to any creature and attempt to take the egg it is carrying, and then
jealously guard it from others. In a group setting, this can provide some entertainment as
a herd of Norns play "capture the egg", fleeing with thier prize when successful.

In all other respects, Osiris v1.5 PE is the same genetically as the standard Osiris v1.5.

Description

Iy yi yi where to begin.... At first, I had wondered just how I could ever do
enough to Osiris v1.4 to make another release happen. I had thought that
Osiris was as good as it could pretty much get. The first thing to change
my opinion of that was that suddenly the facial expressions weren't working
right, apparantly a side effect of the patch upgrade. Then some discoveries
led to adjustments in the behavioral responses to reproductive related stimuli.
Finally, a new side-project was conducted, named "Set", after the brother of
Osiris who ultimately killed him. The idea was to produce a Norn-freindly hybrid
creature whose sole purpose was to attack and kill Grendels and Ettins. While
turning out to be rather unpredictable, the Set project had produced stunning
advances in the area of self defense. After I was fairly pleased with the Set project
results, I found a way to add the crucial Ettin and Grendel attack genes to Osiris,
without disrupting too much of Osiris' character. Then alot of time, patience,
observation, and tweaking later, I was FINALLY ready... Whew!

The results?

* Osiris 1.5 now becomes flirtatious when tickled by the opposite sex
* Osiris 1.5 hatchlings run from Grendels like they are on fire
* Greatly enhanced facial range gives Osiris 1.5 MUCH more character
* Child-stage and older Osiris 1.5 Norns learn to attack and kill Grendels and Ettins
* Osiris 1.5 will attempt to eat bugs and critters when hungry for protien

Obviously, the main change in Osiris is the attack instinct. Never before has
Osiris been able to adequately defend against Grendel attacks and Ettin disruptions.

Osiris Norn Genome Version 1.4
----------------------------

This is the standard readme file for Osiris. The Osiris package contains male and
female exports of baby age, and a genome file. This should be enough material to
satisfy any need. Place the export files into your Creatures3/My Creatures directory
and simply import them into your world of choice. The genome file might be of use
in a genome injector or genetic editor.

NEW IN THIS VERSION
-------------------
Due to somewhat misleading circumstances, and my own impatience, I misjudged and beleived
that I had discovered a "degree of mutation" gene code. As it turns out, it was just
coincidence that I saw the results I did, and they had nothing to do with changing that
code. So i set all my pigment genes to what I thought was maximum degree of mutation, when
in reality I had found a new way to turn them all off... It turns out that all that particular
code really does is turn the entire gene off... Nice, huh?

So this version fixes that issue, and activates all the pigment and bleed genes.

It was discovered (oh not again!) during a wolfling run, that many of my Osiris Norns were
basically living dead... Oxygen levels fixed, no breathing, no glucose... What the *!*#!?
So I took one to the aquarium and plunked him in. He did NOT die. In fact 30 minutes later
he was still walking around underwater. Careful observation led me to discover a liver
related Highlander syndrome of sorts... Old age still kills, but that's ALL that does...
Cyanide, geddonase, glycogen, carbon monoxide, starvation, drowning... No effect at all.

So... much as I hated to do it, I removed the "liver catabolic" damage from disease, end
of problem. Hmpf, thanks Cyberlife...

I did *not* like how rabid a disease #2 was, so I made it about the same as the others. I
prefer if I don't wake up to a graveyard of #2 victims on a long overnight wolf run.
Hey, the Shee left this damn ship to me, and if I don't like something, tough nuts :-)
Sorry if public opinion is otherwise, and if you guys want it back, I will oblige :-)

I added a new gene that produces a *very* light dose of antihistamine from fat and glucose.
It's not much, but it does reduce the duration of sneeze-and-cough a bit. I didn't think it
was very logical for a Norn to spend 90% of it's life sneezing.

Description
-----------

The Set Project was a back burner goal I had, of one day creating a guard-type
species of Norn. On the first attempt, I found that no matter what I did, my
efforts were fruitless; Norns just wouldn't attack Grendels!

I dropped the issue for about 2 weeks, and then summoned enough courage to try
it again, this time swearing I would achieve some form of success. Well, I
stuck to my guns, and was successful, at least in large part. The result I
named "Set", after the vicious, evil brother of Osiris. As Egyptian legend goes,
Set tricked Osiris into climbing into an ornate chest during a celebration
where he who fit the chest exactly would claim it as his own. You see, Set had
actually made the chest to fit only the body of his brother Osiris.

Osiris did indeed fit just great inside the chest, and as he proclaimed his
ownership of the wonderful piece of craftsmanship, Set shouted "You shall have
it forever!", and nailed it shut, trapping Osiris inside and eventually killing
him.

The Set Norn is actually not that much different in behavior. A seething, vicious
creature, Set will passively lay in wait, and strike violently against both
Grendels and Ettins. Unfortunately, Set is also known to lash out against other
Set Norns, Osiris Norns, and other Norn species, although these attacks are rare.

NORN ADOPTION CENTER ARCHIVE BREEDS of Various Authors

These are the breeds from the Archives section of my section (sectionception?) of the Norn Adoption Center (of Alien's Creatures World). They were old breeds I came across while trowling the internet and decided to give a more permanent home.

I haven't played with these in a while, or extensively at all, so be prepared for surprises while playing with them (they're all bug-free, though).

The included breeds, and their authors, are:
*Osiris Norns (1.4, 1.5, 1.5 PE, II) - NightRunner
*Set Norns - NightRunner
*Mutating Ettins - Uttar
*Aqua Norns - Sandra Symansky(?)
*Phantom Grendels - AquaShee
*Tadpole Norns - AquaShee
*Assassin Norns - Aquashee

Installation:
*.agent files go into your "Creatures 3/My Agents" folder or "Docking Station/My Agents" folder. Once installed, you should find the breed in your Norn Egg Layer (C3) or Muco (DS).
*.creature files go into your "Creatures 3/My Creatures" or "Docking Station/My Creatures" folder. Afterwards you should be able to import the creatures with the in-game import option on the Creature Selection menu.

Since I didn't make these breeds, I don't know exactly what the sharing policy on them is. What I do know is that I've had these breeds up on my Norn Adoption Center section for years, with no one saying anything one way or the other. So I'm tenously going to say that you're welcome to share these breeds yourself; all the better to keep them from being lost to the ages.
